When reading the text of Foucault,
In Docile Bodies, Foucault focuses on the male soldier as being idealistic and puts emphasis on the training and discipline needed in order to master the human body. He shifts from a classical view of the ideal soldier being born a soldier to the image of the peasant becoming a soldier, placing importance on the control over the body over time, as well as the discipline needed. He finally compares these bodies to machines or parts of a greater machine. That human beings can be ordered and organized in a mechanical way in order to establish a strong control over these humans.
In panopticism, he focuses on the idea of a central building from which everything can be viewed, observed, policed and controlled. He gives examples of schools, prisons, hospitals and central administrative facilities order to illustrate the systems that have power. He also states that the more sophisticated a city is, the greater control methods it will have over its citizens and that even if certain rights and freedoms are permitted within that society, they can only be granted by allowing a greater amount of control in order to examine these citizens.
In The means of correct training, two terms(among others) arise more than others: power and discipline. Foucault takes a historical-philosophical analysis of these themes and their impact through time, paying special attention to the impacts of the changes that occurred during the eighteenth century. He believes that disciplinary power can be achieved by using specific tools such as Hierarchical observation, normalizing judgment, and combining them to produce examination.

In the cyborg Manifesto, Haraway tries to illustrate the metaphor that a cyborg is a cybernetic organism, a hybrid between a living organism and a machine, mixing social reality and fiction. She elaborates on this metaphor, bluring reality and fiction. She discards the Psycho-analysis that Freudians use, as well as marxian theory for her article. She states that producing universal theories can be a big error and have negative effects on how people will see and interpret these false realities, and that she would prefer to be a cyborg than a goddess.

Final Project

Concept

Here’s the explanation of what I want to do for the final project on interface. The main idea of my project is to show the result of the technologies on the population instead of focusing on the computer itself. The piece will be a collage of drawing that I will draw. The drawing will be in the same style of what I’ve done for the first homework (page 2). The focus of the piece will be dark and will show more negative aspect of the technologies rather then positive. So, I chose to do the piece only with different shade of gray, black and white pencils, to give a look very grim and also, because I think I am more talented to work without colors because I have a color blindness issue.

The major point of the project will show the solitude of human being that will occur with the expansion of technologies and communication method. There’s no need for people to see each other because they can communicate easily without leaving their house. And they can do different experience of feeling or adventure in their home. So people will have great difficulty to leave their place. And cause people can have access to fake emotional states, and fake happiness the computer will be the major point of every human existence. So I will try in my piece to show the dark side of the story and relate it to the power of the company and the control it will have on us.

Composition

On the other page, you can see the drawing I’ve done for the assignment earlier in the semester. Because I think the quality of these are good enough, and because I put a lot of work into these, I want to include them in the final presentation of my project. So there will be a master piece which will be the final project like I explain it in the first chapter. I want to expose it in composition with the rest of the drawing. The final project will be the major attraction of the composition. The other drawing will be place around it to support the message and give more information about the device. I hope I’m clear enough; anyway I’ll have the chance to explain it in detail during our meeting.

Fanette, 1965

The first work wich took my attention at the museum was Fanette. It’s a big red canvas with a green mark in the center. The choice of the color is simply brilliant. It form a contrast totally hypnotic and psychedelic. If you look at the wall where it’s suspend, your eye is immediately attract by this great work. It was place between two other line composition, and that help a lot to reenforce the contrast of the paint. It’s interesting that we spoke of color in the last course. This is a good exemple of two color put together wich form a uncomfortable feeling, a lot of agressivness. I thik this work show a great duality.

This work really inspire me for my final projet. This is a lifting hand drawing of an artist studio. The subject is not really original but the final result is. He simply drew the contour line of everithing in his studio so you can see through everithing. The result is like everithing was kind of transparent. So you can see through the wall and actually what there is outside of the house. The quality of the line is very importent in the work cause there is no shading, he had to represent volume only with contour line, so there’s many different line width in the drawing, The final result is simply breathless, and it take a great talent to manage that kind of work. Also the drawing is only gray dark pen on a white canvas. At the museum they put the frame alone on a light part of the wall to enhance the contrast of the lines.

Earth Mark 1997

I choose that one cause it really shock me, the pain and the sadness that i saw in that paint is made of oil on mylar. I cheaked her other paint and i found them all very grim and bleak. I don’t know anything about her method, but the person into the frame look almost like a wound wich bleed. The painting, i think, shows a person sit on a chair his back turn. You can feel a lot of solitude into it and lot of darkness. Even if we don’t see the person very well, you can sense his pain. Right next to the canvas , you have a another similar paint. It’s a another person sitting alone. So when you look at both at the same time, it’s almost like a couple tears appart. I’m very impress with the technique she used. It’s give a look very original. It inspire me, for my final project, cause in my piece i want to show great pain and solitude.

Hi again. This is a assignement that i had really some pleasure to do. It was really fun to imaginate what will be the computer in the futur. And it lead to some reflexion. The grow of technology lead directly to the growing of surveillance and the loss of personal pivacy.

In some point thechnologie will be positive, but i think that will lead to a break of real link between people who will maintain virtual relation with each other.

Also the technologie help a lot, power in place to brainwash tought of people to force people to think like them. Today , TV and radio is a very powerfull tool to brainwash people. Everyone fall in the trap of consumption. Just imagine a tool even more powerfull than tv and internet.

I hope that my think of the futur will never be realty cause it will lead to lost of freedom for the human being. Here the computer of tommorow

Here's the logo of the compagnie wich will market the new computer. The logo show how the brain will reach a another state with the help of the small computer wich is directly conect to brain of user.

Here's the device. It's small , discreet and nice. Like i said before, it's connect to the brain. And the brain with the help of the computer can access to ultimate knowledge.

This is the central computer wich is link to everyone. This computer contain all the knowledge of humanity. All scientific knowledge is accessible by everyone, everywhere. For exemple. You ar wondering: what is the capital of cambodia, and where is cambodia. So brain will use the computer wich will go pick the information in the central computer and re-send it to your brain. Basically, everyone know everything.

You can access an interface throught your eyes, to help you to access some informations. Like watching tv, communicate with people or access to visual information. Take note that just you can see the interface cause the computer will play with your sight information and send data to your brain. So your eye think the interface is in real world, but it's a illusion create by the computer.

Here's a intersting feature. You are able to save feeling and sense. Like in this exemple, the guy revive a pleasent moment of is life. In the comfort of is home he feel and see what he was feeling and seeing many years ago. Also your are able to share it with your friends. It lead to the marketing of sense and feeling.

Cause everyone will be equally intelligent. You will be able to choose your trade without going to school. And if after a year you don't like it, Just change.

So, university and school will be useless.

Another interesting feature. The computer are able to interact with the cells of your brain to create state of feeling. So it can create happiness and joy. So on that picture, you can see an happy guy although his wife and child died the day before.

People are not stupid. Everyone with the computer will create permenent state of happiness. So either they are poor, rich, single, black, yellow, they will be happy, all the time.

This will be a very good way for the governement, or big corporation to take control of population. And it will be easy for them to do what they want with people. But who will care, everybody will be happy.

Human Computer Interaction in Science Fiction Movies

I found the text pretty interresting. It's true that the movie Minority Report was very creative in his way to see the future. When i first saw it , i found the idea of publicities calling you by your own name, a very good idea. But , when you think about it, it's inevitable.

Also throughtout the history of movies, there's a certain Évolution. I mean, each artist didn't invent the all idea in their movie. They all inspired themself with other movie. You don't have to re-invent the wheel.

Here's the one that i prefer. It really show's what is millencolie for me. Its a big dark valley of pain. And it's also when your world is all riped appart. And the guy show how big and how painfull it is to have the head in a dark cloud.















I don't really like that one. cause i tried to do one with only drawing, but it's a bit boring.

Her's Angry. i think that angriness alway make victims and it leads to disasters.

When i heard 34 greater than 12. I thought of capitalism. We never have enough stuff. So on the collage , you cab see thousand of chinese going to work, to feed us with stuff. and i think that the sun is just feeling sad about it.

Here's the monkey essance. I thought that human is the new monkey of this world. so on the collage he hit the nature with his spiky foot. But on a other hand the big mettalic ball, represent the ingéniosity of the human and all progress that he made.

Reflexion Draw

I'm no sur that i will be able to do the assigment on the refelxion cause i got injured to the right hand, and i'm not able to hold a pencil. It's really a shame. Hopefully, we will not draw this week in the course.

Movement and interruption

i love that one. i can really feel the interuption in it. In the movement and also in the pattern.
Now that i see it with hindsight, i don't see a lot of movement in it.

Drawing at home

I misunderstood this home work a little bit cause i'm not so good in english. Insted of concentring on contour lines, i focus on the shadow. Anyway it was fun and a good practice. Here is the last draw. It was from 10 feets.

Her's the firt drawing i've in the course. Very intersting exercices for learnig to observe. But ,the result a little bit weird.
